Markullu Pantry: Taste the Valley, Preserve Its Essence

At Markulluko Borda Rural Suites, we believe that travelling is about much more than discovering a destination. It is about experiencing its culture, meeting its people, and tasting its authentic flavours. That is why we created The Markullu Pantry, a small farm-to-table shop that completes our guests’ experience and brings them closer to the true essence of the Baztan Valley.

Most of the products you will find in our pantry are produced or handcrafted right here in the Baztan Valley. Whenever a product is not available locally, we source it from the nearest possible areas: Navarre, Gipuzkoa or the French Basque Country. Our commitment is simple: to prioritise local produce, support small-scale producers, and offer the highest-quality food and drink.

The Markullu Pantry is available to our guests 24 hours a day, allowing them to enjoy local products whenever they wish. Whether it is preparing breakfast, enjoying a light dinner, sharing an aperitif or simply tasting a fine local delicacy, everything is within easy reach. Guests simply let us know what they have taken, and the cost is added to their final bill at check-out.

More than just a convenience, the pantry is an invitation to discover the Baztan Valley through its flavours. Every cheese, jam, cider, wine, beer and cured meat tells the story of the people who lovingly care for this land. After tasting these products, many of our guests are inspired to visit the farms, workshops and producers behind them, exploring the valley from a deeper and more authentic perspective.

Choosing local products is also a way of protecting the landscape that makes the Baztan Valley so special. Its green meadows, forests, traditional farmhouses and family-run farms can only thrive if we continue to support the people who live and work here. By choosing these products, we help strengthen the local economy, preserve traditional knowledge and protect the unique landscape that defines our valley.

At Markulluko Borda, we hope you leave with more than wonderful memories of your stay. We hope you take home the flavours of our land and the satisfaction of having contributed, in your own way, to preserving it for future generations.
